The host wing, the 6th AMW, includes maintenance, medical, operational, mission support and staffing agencies. The history of the squadron dates back to 1919, when it was organized as the 3rd Observation Group. Previous names of the group include 6th Composite Group and 6th Bombardment Group. The group was renamed the 6th Operations Group. The Operations Unit is responsible for the planning and execution of aircraft refueling, airlift of combat aircraft and air support missions in the United States.
