(6) `interpersonal violence` means an act which may be punishable as a criminal offence and which is committed or threatens to be committed by an offender against a person (A) with whom the offender shares or has shared a common place of residence; or (B) who is or has been married, in domestic partnership with, divorced or separated from or in a romantic, dated or sexual relationship with another person who is or has been married, in a domestic partnership with, divorced or separated from or in a romantic, romantic or sexual relationship with the abuser. About 38 states include definitions and penalties for domestic violence in the penal code, and almost all states provide a definition in the codes of domestic relations or social services. Within this variance, there are general definitions that may include harassment, harassment and, in some cases, non-physical violence, including bullying and emotional abuse. (2) `members of the household` means persons who have lived or have lived together for a certain period of time, who share or have shared an apartment, who have had or have engaged in a sexual relationship, or minors or adults who have arranged to meet or have arranged to meet. « Encounters » means a social relationship of a romantic nature.
