Kentucky Legal Aid`s mission is to support and empower low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable people in south-central and western Kentucky to address legal issues that are barriers to self-sufficiency and enable them to improve their quality of life. Kentucky Legal Aid (KLA) provides free civil justice services to low-income residents of western and south-central Kentucky. We do not conduct criminal proceedings. If you wish to request legal services, you must call the KLA admissions office at 1-866-452-9243 (toll-free) or 270-782-5740 (local call for Warren County, Kentucky). You can call the intake line from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday (central time zone). Eligibility for KLA assistance depends on your income and assets and the nature of the problem you are experiencing. As a result, you will be asked about your income and the type of problem you need help with determining if you qualify for legal services. The general income threshold to qualify for a full range of services is 110% of the federal poverty line, which changes every April. There are also asset limits (money in bank accounts, real estate, etc.). KLA admissions staff can refer you to your local KLA office or another agency for assistance.
When recommendations are made, our employees try to make the best recommendation possible. However, we cannot guarantee that the agency or program to which you are referred will be able to represent you. Once your request for services is approved, you can call back if necessary to speak directly to your assigned legal counsel. Financial screening is usually only required once a year. If you are eligible for assistance, you will be transferred to speak to legal counsel. Please gather the documents and facts relevant to your case before calling so that we can assist you as soon as possible. Legal counsel will talk to you about your situation and try to help you resolve the issue. If necessary, legal counsel can make an appointment to come to one of our offices or arrange for another lawyer to assist you. At Kentucky Legal Aid, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional client service. This means that we make it easy for you to apply for legal aid and inform you promptly of the help we can provide you.
Have you ever used this desk for anything? What did you think? If you are called back, you will be asked to provide financial information about your household. Find out about your total household income and the value of any assets you own (such as a house or car) before you call. We use this financial information to determine if we can help you. If you believe you have been unfairly denied services or are not satisfied with the services you received, learn more about the complaint procedures here. Call 270-782-5740 or 866-452-9243 (toll-free) for assistance. This line is answered Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CT. The line is closed every holiday and sometimes for special events. When you call, a receptionist will answer and ask for your phone number and put you in line for a quick call back from the admissions department.
The receptionist will let you know when you can expect to be called back. You will usually be called back in less than 30 minutes. However, it might take longer if we are very busy. If you are not someone`s power of attorney or guardian, you should call on your own behalf, not because of someone else`s problem. 117 West Second St. Owensboro, KY – 42303 Phone Number: (270) 683-4585.
