Legal Training Manual

Our mission is to serve as a world-class leader and provider of federal law enforcement training. As a division of the Office of the Chief Counsel, the Legal Division strives to provide quality legal training to core and advanced law enforcement staff. In fulfilling this mandate, LGD`s counsel provide training in all areas of criminal law and criminal procedure, including constitutional law, authority and jurisdiction, search and seizure, use of force, self-incrimination, judicial evidence, courtroom testimony, electronic law and evidence, criminal laws and civil liability. While much of the LGD`s training mission focuses on newly hired enforcement officers, LGD also provides training to advanced enforcement officers and lawyers through the Continuing Legal Education Program (CLETP) and related legal updates. With this in mind, we offer our manual. The 2015 edition contains material for basic training, higher education and field use. The reference work of the Legal Department is a complement to the manual. The Additional Resources section contains a wealth of legal information to assist you in your day-to-day activities as a law enforcement officer. We hope in the LGD that the manual can be used by both law enforcement students and law enforcement officials.
